November is #YoungsterMonth

Last year we began an initiative in the month of November to highlight youth in lindy hop. This year we’re bringing #YoungsterMonth back and you can follow us on Facebook and Twitter to enjoy a variety of posts highlighting children and teenagers in our dance community.

You might wonder about the word “youngster”; this was a term that Frankie Manning used to fondly describe young people. Frankie recognized the importance of spreading the joy of lindy hop to our youngsters and this is a great time to celebrate not only the incredible young members of our community, but also the sensational instructors who work with them. We appreciate all of your hard work!

When you make a donation to the Foundation, make a note that you’d like your contribution to support “youngster” programming and we’ll ensure that young people benefit from your generosity. Thank you in advance!

One of the largest programs is the Youth Program at the annual International Lindy Hop Competitions in Washington DC, which has taken place in in August in previous years but will be moving to November in 2019. At events like ILHC, the kids are inspired by the adult champions; they, in turn, inspire everyone present.

The Foundation ambassador program is continuing to find ways to support teenagers. In the past, we have provided scholarships for teens to attend Beantown, and now teens are attending Swing Out New Hampshire.
